I Shave My Legs With What....?

image from drugstore.com

So summer is here, and for me that means shaving my legs a lot more.  I have been blessed with a lot of hair.  I have beautiful thick shiny hair on my head, and A LOT of it.  Now that wonderful advantage of having a full hair of thick hair means I have a lot of hair EVERYWHERE else.  My eyebrows are huge, I have hair growing EVERYWHERE...lol.  It is not a pretty picture.

So not only do I have a lot of hair all over my body it is dark, black hair.  So that means on my legs it is more noticeable.  I often in the summer shave my legs every day.  Two years ago I was developing a rash on my legs from the shaving cream.  So I did some research, and it turns out that shaving cream is just whipped soap...ummm duh I'm allergic to soap...lol.  Like gees why didn't I figure that out for myself.  It was then that I heard about people using hair conditioner to shave their legs.  Umm conditioner?  Ohhh okay.  I had to let my rash heal for about a week, and then tried shaving with the conditioner.  All I can say is WOW what an amazing product to shave your legs with.  First off no more rashes!  I get zero razor burn, and not only a super close shave, but my legs are soooo soft after.  Another great advantage of using conditioner is that price doesn't matter.  I usually buy dollar store conditioner to shave with, and it works better than any expensive shaving lotion!

So anyone else shave with conditioner?  Do you have a favorite brand?  Do you use something else to shave with other than shaving lotion or cream?

Clean Your Face With Oil

I wish I had perfect skin, but I don’t.  I tend to be on the oily side which as I’m getting older will work out to my benefit.  On the downside I still get breakouts I’m almost 41 years old, and still get the odd pimple.  So one day I was looking up the benefits of using Olive Oil on the skin, and imagine my surprise when I discovered The Oil Cleansing Method  Wow!  Wash my face with oil you’ve got to be kidding me.  But after more reading, and I saw how many people swore it didn’t leave their skin an oil slick, and they thought it was good I thought why not.  So I bought some castor oil to make my own oil cleanser.  That next morning I mixed up a mixture of 50/50 castor oil and olive oil massaged it all over my face, and then went in the shower.  At the end of my shower I used a wash cloth, and gently wiped off the oil.  I was completely shocked that when I got out of the shower dried off my face, and discovered that not only did it not feel like an oil slick it actually felt like I need more moisture….lol.  So I used my moisturizer with sunscreen.  However my skin did feel very soft and I noticed fewer blackheads.  I did adjust my mixture to add more olive oil so that I get the moisture I felt my skin needed.  I’ve been using this method for about two weeks now, and I keep asking Chris if my face feels softer and he says yes.
I find this such a great method in cleaning my face as I can customize my oil mixture just for me.  I know EXACTLY what’s in it.  I cut down on packaging and waste in that way.  More importantly for this Crunchy Diva to do it, it HAS to be simple, and this is VERY simple.

Sweeten Your Bath or Shower With This Simple & Cheap Scrub

Brown Sugar scrubs are one of my most favorite things to do when I'm having a bath or shower.  I try to do this 2 - 3 times a week.  It's so simple & cheap.  I've seen recipes online like this one calling for brown sugar, salt  & oil .  You could do that.  I have tried similar scrubs & found that my brown sugar dissolved to quickly in the oil for my liking.  Maybe I just need to buy a coarser brown sugar for that, but I want this treatment to be simple & cheap so running out to buy 'special' sugar defeats the purpose...lol.  So all I do is take about 2 - 3 table spoons of brown sugar in a container & then when I'm in my bath or shower I scoop out a little at a time & then just rub the brown sugar by itself all over.  I pay special attention to areas that get more dry like my feet & elbows.  I also make sure to pay special attention on my hands & my back.  My skin feels so smooth & soft after.  The brown sugar is a great exfloiator.  However I don't use this on my face as I feel the brown sugar is to rough for the delicate skin on the face.

Here are a few benefits of Body Scrubs:
~ remove all the dead skin off your body and expose a supple layer of younger skin, making you feel fresh and rejuvenated
~ great way to prep your sking for a self tanner
~ a nice treat to just make you feel good & relax a little especially if you do it while in the bath

Do you have any cheap tips that you use as beauty items?
